Camp Wonderopolis
Camp Wonderopolis is a digital summer camp with in-person campsites throughout the United States. It's aim is to provide campers with meaningful educational experiences in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Each year presents a different theme around which different tracks are designed to include learning, literacy, and fun. In 2017, the theme was Build Your Own Wonderocity and program tracks were structured around different aspects of city life, including architecture, construction, transportation, and food science.
To be considered as a camp site, organizations must first apply for a grant through Camp Wonderopolis, which allots the site with money to organize events and provide digital content. Each site is also required to host in-person maker events and build a library of materials for campers.
In 2017, I was given the opportunity to write the grant for Covina Public Library and, when we were accepted, coordinate all camp-related activities in conjunction with our regular Summer Reading Program. To support summer camp, the library partnered with DiscoveryCube LA and Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena.
